Usar la palabra baby para referirse a alguien que no conoces bien puede ser ofensivo. Se considera como término muy familiar, y además chauvinista cuando se refiere a una mujer.

Cuando se dice por o de una mujer, to have a baby significa estar embarazada o dar a luz. Ejemplo: She's having a baby, so she cut down her hours at work. (está embarazada)
Una pareja de padres (o futuros padres) también pueden usar esta frase colectivamente. Ejemplo: We had a baby, so we are moving to a larger apartment. (la mujer de esta pareja dio a luz).
